City Studio

City Studio was an adaptive re-use project which transformed a once abandoned craftsman style home into an artist's studio and gallery space. The building's neighborhood had been rezoned commercial but still retained many residential neighborhood characteristics. Therefore the goal of the design was to maintain a residential look while incorporating commercial elements such as a wheelchair ramp, accessible restroom and adequate parking.

The building also incorporated green design concepts with in floor radiant heat, high efficiency insulation and cement board siding. High south-facing windows in the studio allowed for natural light and with no air conditioning the windows provided natural ventilation. All of the original windows were refurbished sealed and fitted with exterior storm windows for thermal efficiency and most of the materials removed during demolition were donated to minimize landfill waste
