About

Michael Fitzhugh, a native of Northern Michigan received his Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Utah Graduate School of Architecture. While studying he began working for the successful Salt Lake City architecture firm FFKR. For the next five years he was fortunate enough to be mentored, learning from others while developing his own sense of style through designing and building architectural models.

During his internship he earned his Master's degree in Architecture. For his thesis project he chose Northern Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore as the setting for a hypothetical visitor's center. After completing his education he relocated to San Francisco gaining experience in a range of commercial and residential projects. Michael worked at an award winning interior design firm, Huntsman Architectural Group as well as a leading Silicone Valley engineering firm, Alfatech. This range of experience has given Michael a unique sense of project demands and client dynamics.

After several years and a growing desire to return to the landscape that originally inspired him, Michael returned to Traverse City to take on the challenges of Northern Michigan. Here he works closely with each client, determining the direction of every project, applying unique solutions while carefully considering the project's context. Michael also makes it a goal to incorporate concepts of passive solar design, energy efficiency and utilizing green, sustainable products and methods whenever possible. Michael Fitzhugh is a licensed Architect in both California and Michigan and is NCARB certified.
