Meet the Staff
A native of Northern Michigan, Michael received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture from the University of Utah Graduate School of Architecture. While studying, he began working for a successful Salt Lake City architecture firm. After completing his education he relocated to San Francisco gaining experience in a range of commercial and residential projects. Michael worked at an award winning interior design firm, as well as a leading Silicon Valley engineering firm. After several years and a growing desire to return to the landscape that originally inspired him, Michael returned to Traverse City to take on the challenges of Northern Michigan. Michael’s work in Northern Michigan has included the renovation of the award winning State Theatre in downtown Traverse City which is ranked as one of the top ten single screen theatres the country. Michael has also worked on many types of projects from pre fabricated cottages, energy efficient modern residential, residential remodel work and many commercial projects including cafe’s, condominiums, brewerys, retail and medical clinics. A California native and graduate of San Francisco State University. She has over 18 years of office experience. April joined Michael Fitzhugh Architect in 2009 and is the bookkeeper, amateur photographer, and office manager.
Founded in 2004, Michael Fitzhugh Architect is a sole proprietor Architect specializing in custom commercial and residential projects.
Michael draws on a depth of experience and has successfully solved a variety of project types including commercial development, commercial and office interiors, hospitality, residential and healthcare. The range of project types reflects the nature of the Northern Michigan’s smaller communities and Michael prides himself on staying diverse in projects.
Michael approaches each project with careful attention to client’s needs, budget and schedule with an emphasis on creative design and thoughtful problem solving. Michael uses current design and drafting technologies including AutoCAD, 3D digital renderings, physical modeling, and hand sketched renderings.
